Letter from President Michael D. Higgins

Mr. Mannix’s Fourth Class pupils held a poetry competition to mark Poetry Day Ireland on 28th April. We are very proud of all our poets at Kilcummin NS. Lydia Leader was selected as the winning poet from the class and the decision was made to send the poem ‘Hope’ by Lydia Leader, to poetry lover, President Michael D. Higgins. Lydia was delighted to receive a letter from the President’s office. President Higgins expressed that he was grateful for Lydia’s thoughtfulness and sent her his best wishes. Well done and congratulations to Lydia on this wonderful feat! We are very proud of her and we have published her poem on our school website. Lydia is proudly holding the correspondence that she received from Áras an Uachtaráin in the photograph. Well done Lydia! We look forward to reading more of your poems!
