SA coalition of national schools in the Killarney area, including Kilcummin NS, is launching a campaign urging parents to delay purchasing smartphones and keeping children under 13 years of age off social media platforms. This initiative is supported by policy guidance from the Department of Education and is driven by concerns about the negative impact smartphones can have on young children. The campaign seeks to reduce the pressure on parents to buy smartphones, foster safer learning environments, and promote healthier childhood development. Further information will be disseminated shortly. We were delighted that our Assistant Principal, Ms O’ Connor,  and 2 representatives from Kilcummin NS, Ciarán Fitzgerald and Kate Fleming, had an opportunity to meet with Minister Norma Foley recently at the launch of the initiative. We are currently liaising with the other schools about the implementation of this important initiative and will be ordering resources for distribution shortly.
